It's interesting the way movies portray Religion and Belief to a purely human endeavor, almost to the effect that it is an idea constructed purely by man. A concept in the mind in which is innately centered on man.
This is seen in everything Humanistic. The study of the humanities at its purest form is the study of man. A glorification of the thoughts and ideas of man. The same goes fro the study of religion. Although it has an innocent connotation which aims to understand man in relation to the divine, its focus is on man's endeavor, successes and failures. An area of study which fails to answer what does it look like to be fully engaged in the divine; the outcome of God filling you and exuding out of you. The difference is simply a changing of focus from man to God.
Throughout the development of an Religion and system of thought, through the likes of Marx, Hegel, etc, there is an underlying theme in which takes a position to understand man. It is a glorification of all things man. Which in itself has given us a thorough understanding and depth to the human conscience, spirit and mind. However this immense knowledge and depth of man fails every time in comparison to the depth of God.
Although I am coming from a Christian perspective I am also proposing a challenge to my reader and myself. Stop looking for and looking toward an understanding which results in more knowledge about man but instead desire to understand the divine; look towards God to exalt Him instead of us.
I am certain that this will lead to revelation of things supernatural. Now with things supernatural, there comes another realm of understanding which is based upon authority. Authority in the sense that we need to be able to discern the authority or basis of that supernatural revelation.
Why? Because their will be powers which seek to mimic and imitate good and truth when in actuality they gain its authority in that which is inward and self-focused. This is why we have seen religion come to prominence by building upon a humanistic focus and creating its own realm of authority and spiritual force.
